There are few bands I look forward to photographing more than Steel Pulse… actually I can’t think of any other band I would rather spend an evening with. Over the years I have developed a great relationship with both the band and management that allows me a little more time and access to shoot. That results in two issues, I end up with a lot of images, and editing them down to a small set is really tough.
The show was at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa as part of the Orange County Fair concert series. It was a packed house for the double bill of Steel Pulse and Ziggy Marley. I did not stay for the Ziggy portion of the show as I did not ask to shoot his portion of the show and I needed to get back to San Diego.

The Pacific Amphitheatre does not have a photo pit and I didn’t want to get in the way of the fans in the front row after the show started. That meant shooting from a pretty extreme side stage angle but it did lead to some shots I have never got before.
All the images were shot using the Nikon D750 and Nikon D4 camera bodies and the 24-70mm f/2.8 and the 70-200mm f/2.8 Nikkor lenses. Here are the rest of the images.
Here is looking towards more Steel Pulse shows this year.
Mr Hess, you are a GENI-I. You will be a GENI-US when MY photography skills get up there too LoL
