Have you seen the movie Almost Famous? If you haven’t, go out and watch it. It happens to be one of my favorite movies and I think you will enjoy it as well. Now the movie follows a young music writer as he goes on tour with an up and coming band. The movie starts off in San Diego, where the young music writer lives with his sister and mother. Young William gets a job to go interview the band at the local arena, The San Diego Sports Arena, where he meets his destiny on the loading dock ramp. Now years ago when out shooting for Billboard I got to shoot at the San Diego Sports Arena and got to walk down that ramp into the building. For me, that was a better feeling than the 1 song shoot that night.
Well, the San Diego Sports Arena is now the Valley View Casino Center and I am one of the freelance photographers that they use to cover events there. Every time I’m in the building I think of William and how his journey began in that building. I know it’s juts a movie, but it is based on reality and that’s good enough for me. So in the last month or so I have shot The WWE – World Wrestling Entertainment, The Harlem Globetrotters, The Nuclear Cowboyz and Juanes.
I have been given permission to post selected shots from the shoots here and will be doing so in the coming weeks. Here is a little sneak peek.
Much more to come……
Great shots Alan! I love ‘Almost Famous’… I can watch it over and over.
I posted a link to your site in my latest blog post. Just mentioning your tip about using the shade white balance for shooting concerts. Hope you get some extra hits.
