This was my third time shooting Slayer and the first time during the day. The last time I shot them I was hoping for more light, this time around I really wanted the sun to go down so the stage lighting would be more pronounced. But it was not to be and all the stage lighting did was create some pretty strong color casts especially towards the end of the second song.  Slayer came out strong and really looked like they owned that stage.

Now I mentioned earlier that I would talk about the video guys during this post. So here is my rant on that… The video guys stood right in front of the musicians most of the time. This meant that not only could we not see them, but the poor concert goers who were crushed up against the front rail couldn’t see them. So many times, as I started to shoot, the camera operator would come in from the side and end up right in front of me. I am pretty good at not shooting the back of camera guys but here you get the idea..

All images were taken with Nikon D3 and D700 cameras with 70-200mm f/2.8, 300mm f/4 and 24-70mm f/2.8 on Hoodman RAW CompactFlash cards.
