This was my second time photographing Selena for the Valley View Casino Center. This was by far the more difficult shoot. The photographers (all three of us) were crammed into a very small spot and spent most of the show photographing across the stage into a very bright light. The only time we were able to photograph Selena with her stage in the background was during her entrance as she came down the stairs.

Thankfully she paused at the top of the stairs allowing for us to get  some great shots.

Then it all went downhill.

The biggest issue was the angle we were shooting from. The bright light at the bottom of the frame bled enough light into the scene to illuminate the empty seats at the top of the frame. These seats were located behind the side of the stage and while the crowd didn’t care since they couldn’t see them,  they are the worst thing for a venue photographer. We want every image to not only show the great performance but also that the venue looks good, and is packed with fans.

The three songs went by very fast. I shot with two cameras and two lenses, the D700 wight he 24-70mm f/2.8 and the D4 with the 70-200mm f/2.8
