On October 15, 2016, Univision Television put on a live, televised concert at the San Diego border and I was there to cover the show for Invision/AP. The show started at 4pm and went to 7 pm with 18 musical performances and a couple of speakers along with a host presenting the acts. The list of performers was: Los Tigers Del Norte, Andra Day, Alejandro Sanz, Jesse y Joy with Alejandro Sanz, Carlos Vives, Miguel Bose, Miguel Bose and Fonseca, Juanes, Natalia Lafourcade, Lupillo Rivera, Lila Downs, Jorge Drexler, Julieta Venegas, Becky G, Jesse Y Joy, Luis Coronel, Fonseca and Debi Nova, Residente with Lila Downs and T-Bone Burnett.
This equated to thousands of images that need to be downloaded, processed and captioned, then uploaded to the AP servers as fast as possible. The biggest challenge was time, as i was working alone, no runner, no editor. I had to wait till 7pm to start downloading and editing the images. Then they shut off the power and the internet at about 8:15pm with just the Getty editors and myself sitting in the press room trying to get the images done. I had to pack it all up, drive home and finish working here.
The selects were sent to the AP wire and went out nationwide, the rest of the images were uploaded by Sunday morning. Long shoot. Here are some of the photos from that shoot. All photos were shot from the FOH with he Nikon D750 and the 200-500mm f/5.6 Nikkor lens and the Nikon d4 with the 70-200mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8 and the 20-35mm f/2.8 lenses. The 200-500mm f/5.6 was a shoot saver and worked great especially since most of the show took place during bright sunlight.
