The reason that I first joined NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Proffessionals) was because of the magazine Photoshop User. I picked up the first issue in a bookstore called the San Diego Technical Bookstore and I went back every week looking for more issues. I have every issue since the first one I bought hat day back so many years ago. Since then I have contributed to and article on Photoshop tips, co-authored an article on using Photoshop to color comic books and authored an article on Concert Photography. I have also taught at Photoshop World and have a class available on Kelby Training. I am also a huge fan of the content that Kelby media puts out and that now includes a new iPad magazine.

Light It: The How-To Magazine for Studio Lighting and Off-Camera Flash

I was lucky enough to get a copy yesterday and it killed my productivity. I spent hours reading what I think will be a fantastic resource for all photographers who want to improve their photography.

This is one slick publication and while I was writing the iPad Fully Loaded and the iPad 2 Fully Loaded, I saw a lot of magazines on the iPad, some are good, some are not so good. This one rocks. The navigation is simple, the layout is clean and the articles have the same polish that I have come to expect from anything Scott and the crew at Kelby Media puts out.

The first issue is free and is jammed with so much great info, I didn’t know where to start. Just an example of what is inside. There is a gear section written by Brad Moore, articles by Frank Doorhof, Erik Valind, Zack Arias, Scott Kelby, Jeremy Cowart, Matt Kloskowski, Jim Schmelzer, RC Conception, a video interview with Joe McNally, some great do-it-yourself tips from Larry Becker, a location shoot from Tom Bol, and some wedding lighting tips from Jason Groupp. Thats a lot of stuff in one magazine.

My only question is: what are you going to do for issue 2 ?

TAMPA, FL – August 24, 2011 – Today, best-selling Photoshop® and photography book author, Scott Kelby released a new iPad-only digital magazine called Light It: The How-To Magazine for Studio Lighting and Off-Camera Flash through his division. “The future is digital, so there will be a digital version of everything we do going forward. There has to be. The cheese has been moved.” – Scott Kelby

Light It was conceived and designed specifically for the iPad to incorporate crisp, sharp photos and embedded videos and links with the intuitive feel of a print magazine. “Our number-one goal with Light It is to give readers an easy-to-read app that doesn’t get in the way of the learning. If we have to teach people how to read it, we’ve failed,” said Kelby.

The launch of Light It as an iPad-only publication represents a bold new step for Scott’s company, Kelby Media Group, since the company’s origin is deeply rooted in the print publishing business. “I think the future of magazine publishing is digital, and I personally now prefer to read magazines on my iPad, which is something I never thought would happen,” said Kelby. “With iPad publishing, you can try new things, experiment, and even launch new magazines without the massive risk normally associated with print publishing. The future is digital, so there will be a digital version of everything we do going forward. There has to be. The cheese has been moved.” selected Aquafadas to develop its digital publishing solution for Light It. Aquafadas is the leader in the digital comics market with AveComics, used by French and international publishers to publish comics to digital devices. The company has established partnerships with Quark Inc. and Fnac and sells its products worldwide in key markets, including the U.S., Japan, Germany, and the UK.

“We are very pleased Scott Kelby selected Aquafadas as his digital publishing partner, and very happy that the features of our AVE Publishing Tools are able to meet the exceptional demands of a magazine for creative professionals like Light It,” said Claudia Zimmer, Aquafadas CEO.
