GLORY, the kickboxing league held their GLORY 21 at the Valley View Casino Center here in San Diego. I was ringside to capture the action and there was plenty of action.

Before I get deep into the actual images from the event, it’s important to discuss the cameras, lenses and camera settings. I shot the event with two cameras, the Nikon D4 and the Nikon D750. The settings I used on the two cameras were identical, from the White Balance to the ISO and shutter speed. I shot the fights at 1/1000 second which was enough to freeze the action. Anything slower and the action would have been blurry. The ISO was set to 2500 and the aperture at f/2.8. The white balance was set to tungsten, which gave me the truest color right out of the camera.

The GLORY ring is different from a boxing ring as it has 4 horizontal ropes, not 3 and I found myself constantly trying to avoid both the bottom rope and the 2nd to bottom rope in getting a clean shot.

I shot the majority of the photos using the D4 with he 24-70mm f/2.8 lens and periodically switched to the D750 with the 70-200mm f/2.8 for the action across the bring or for the shots of the fighters walking to the ring.
