Smashing Pumpkins concert shoot

Last night I had the opportunity to photograph the Smashing pumpkins in concert at UCSDs’ RIMAC Arena. I was asked by the venue to photograph the band for use in promotional material by the venue and as a print for the venue offices.
The photo pass request was approved by the Smashing Pumpkins and I was sent a [...]

Gov’t Mule concert shoot

Back in 1989, The Allman Brothers added guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody.  These two, along with drummer Matt Abts, got together when the Allman Brothers band had the day off  to play in a power trio called Gov’t Mule. Since that time, Gov’t Mule has gone through a lot of changes, beginning with the death [...]

“Common Cents”

One of the advantages to being part of the NPPA (National Press Photographers Association) is the News Photographer magazine that shows up every month. The first column I read every month is by Mark Loundry and is called Common Cents. Mark finishes off each column with The Good, The Bad & The Ugly to do [...]

New Concert Photos

I have been adding to the concert galleries on Shot Live Photo. Recent updates include Juliette and The Licks and The School of Rock from the Green Apple Music Festival held 4/20/2008 on the Santa Monica pier. Dickey Betts, Crowded House and Blues Traveler, both at Humphreys from the 2007 concert season.
The photos can be [...]

Steel Pulse / Concert Photography

Concert photography can be one of the most rewarding and frustrating experiences you can have as a photographer. These days it is very difficult to even get a camera into a concert venue. Most venues now do not allow photography during any live performances, and the only people who are allowed to bring cameras are [...]

Bob Weir & RatDog / Gov’t Mule at the Greek

I recently got to photograph a series of concerts by Gov’t Mule and Bob Weir & RatDog. One venue that they played was at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. This venue is run by Nederlander productions. To the regular concert goer this means nothing, but to the photographer this is a huge problem. I [...]

Billy Idol

I had the pleasure of shooting Billy Idol on the first night of his current tour.
He puts on a really good show, and even though the venue wasn’t the greatest, the photographs came out really nicely.

I will be posting more images from this show and a few other recent concert very soon.

Steel Pulse

The San Diego County Fair kicked off this last Saturday at the Del Mar Fair. The fair has a range of free concerts over the summer and the first headliner this year was Steel Pulse.
Steel Pulse have been a favorite band of mine for many years, and seeing them brought back many great memories from [...]

Green Apple Festival

Three years ago, the Green Apple Festival was born in New York City to help celebrate Earth Day. The following year, the festival was held in New York and San Francisco and this year is was held in eight cities on April 20th, 2008.
I was one of the official photographers for the Los Angeles event [...]
