This was the hardest shoot of the night. Giant metal robots and fire balls combined with frantic movement and terrible lighting made this one tough. Then we were kicked out of the photo pit after two songs instead of the regular three. Rob Zombie came out of the giant robot in long leather coat and [...]
The second band to take the main stage at this years Rockstar Mayhem Festival was Lamb of God. A hard metal band out of Virginia put on a solid show and where fun to shoot. The members tended to stay in their stage spots which made it pretty easy to move from one to the [...]
On Saturday July 10, the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival kicked off in San Bernardino and I was there to photograph the whole thing. Billed as the the Hardest Show on Earth it didn’t disappoint. This post is about Five Finger Death Punch, the first of four band that played on the main stage. I [...]
I have been listening to Steel Pulse for a long time. Many years ago I lived in Ashland, Oregon and used to work as a bartender at one of the biggest bars in town. We had a great crew working behind the bar and one of the reasons we got along so well was our [...]
The 2010 University of California, San Diego SUNGOD festival was held on May 14 and it was a blast. Eight bands, comedians, circus performers (with a twist, but more on them later) and a dance tent with DJs spinning tunes all day. As a photographer, it was a long day. The doors opened at noon [...]
Last week was busy, I mean really busy. After spending the week at Photoshop World, I was off to shoot the Mat Kearney / Ingrid Michaelson show at the local House of Blues with Brad Moore. This was my first time shooting at this particular HOB and the first thing I noticed was that it [...]
On Thursday, January 14, I had the privilege of shooting Jackie Greene at the Belly Up Tavern in San Diego. Awful lights but using a Nikon D700 and some good prime lenses I got some really nice shots. For the full gallery go HERE.
My third concert post just went live over at Digital Photo Experience. This one is all about picking the focus thats right for you and the music. You can check it out HERE. My first two posts dealing with manual shooting mode and spot metering mode are HERE and HERE.
TicketMaster controls most of the concert / event tickets sales in the USA. Live Nation controls a ton of the concert venues and now these two want to join forces. This is a bad idea for ticket buyers / concert goers. I urge everyone to go to www.ticketdisaster.org and read all about it.
Photoshop World officially kicks off today in about 2 hours. For some, it started yesterday with a full range on pre conference workshops including my Real World Concert Photography. I really want to thank everyone who came out and joined Scott Diussa and myself for that really fun afternoon. For those that were there, there [...]
Trent Reznor / NIN has written a great post in the NIN online forum I would paraphrase what he said, but it is such a great read from an inside source that I am going to post the whole thing here. Between the new NIN camera policy and now this, I am beginning to think [...]
This is great. I hope that the venues on the tour get the word and I hope that it starts a trend in the business. In an effort to allow you to document your experience at the upcoming NIN/JA performances, we will be relaxing our photo/video policy (5/7/09 – 6/12/09 only). Fans will be permitted [...]
