It’s that time of the year. Shopping season. This year I have some recommendations for the photographer in your life. These are all things that I have used, read, or written. I do not get any money or discounts for recommending these products (except for my own book) they are just things I use and can recommend.
The first is for the person who wants to use Photoshop but doesn’t know where to start, or already uses Photoshop but wants to get better. The Photoshop Toolbox is a fantastic new book from Glyn Dewis.
This book breaks the huge, complicated beast that is Photoshop into simple digestible chunks covering the basic tools you need to get started. But instead of me telling you about it, here is a video of Glyn telling you what to expect in his new book.
The book is available at Rocky Nook and everywhere that books are sold. If you go to Rocky Nook you can save 40% off the list price by using this special code: PSTBGD40 at checkout. While on the subject of books for photographers, I have a new book that is just out aimed at the beginning photographer. or anyone who wants to just Make Great Photos.
The book is called Make Great Photos and to get an idea of what it covers, here is the full table of contents:
The book is full of examples and tries to use simple terms and instructions. I am really proud of this book and I believe it will be a really useful tool for those wanting to take better photos. The book is available at Rocky Nook and the best news is that here is a code for 40% off the list price. Here is the code: AHGREAT40
My favorite camera bag is the Shape Shifter backpack from Think Tank Photo. They have three versions of this bag out now and while I have no plans to update my original 15″ version, it is really tempting. Now these bags are quite expensive but so worth it. Think Tank Photo also makes a set of small storage bags for cable management. I would be lost without these as I use them for everything from storing batteries to my iPad / iPhone cables.
You can read more about my bag in this post from a few years ago.
Many people don’t like subscription software, but it really does make life easier and Adobe has a great plan for photographers where you can get Photoshop and Lightroom for just $9.99 a month. That is a great price for Photoshop, Lightroom CC, Lightroom Classic, and 20GB of cloud storage. You can compare all the different plans right HERE. Even if the photographer in your life already has this plan, you can still buy a code which will extend the plan,
This last one isn’t available yet, so there is no chance that the person on your list has it. It’s another new book by my friend and InDesign guru, Dave Clayton. HOW DO I DO THAT IN INDESIGN? is being written as we speak and will be out early next year from Rocky Nook. You can find all the details HERE.
